I was looking at some replacements on ebay. can i get a replacement for any blackberry model or does it have to be specifically for the Tour. I don’t want to order the trackball and then it not fit or work with the Tour. What trackball do you reccommnd for a replacement for the Tour

  2. chapowed says:

Good video but be careful. I accidentially disconnected the screen cable from the board while replacing the track ball. This cable is barely attached & comes off very easily without you even knowing it. This was very time consuming to troubleshoot & required more disassembly to fix.

  3. iamsuperbleeder says:

yeah it’s just too bad that this voided my waranty, after only having the phone for about 3 months, lol… oh well… maybe a veeeerrrrry small dab of white-out on that one screw can fool the RIM techs, lmao

  4. GoGazelle says:

    Very welcome! Glad to help

  5. iamsuperbleeder says:

sweet, used this video to just GET TO the track ball in my Tour, then disassembled the trackball and cleaned it, lol; works great now! Thank you!

  6. GoGazelle says:

Yes, but it is really stuck on there. It is very small too, so be careful.

  7. OreoEntertainment says:

couldnt you gently remove the sticker then put it back when you are done?

  8. GoGazelle says:

There is a tiny sticker over one of the screws, it says void if removed.

  9. OreoEntertainment says:

how would they know you took the screws out of the phone?

IS it just me.. or is this the Bearded dude from the HANGOVER????

  11. GoGazelle says:

Thank you, very good point. Remove those memory cards as well guys!

  12. jwhoweth says:

Pardon me for being a moron. You might want to SPECIFICALLY SAY TO REMOVE THE MEDIA CARD BEFORE STARTING THIS. IT SHOULD BE IN THE VIDEO BEFORE THE 4 SCREWS ARE REMOVED.

  13. NTel says:

From my understanding, it wasn’t the trackball’s that were faulty, but more so where they connect to the board that wasn’t right. Something about the ball housing assembly wasn’t sitting on the pad of the board correctly or something.

I remember this because on Crackberry, they were using a small piece of cardboard or paper under it and it was making them all work 100%. They used the same trackball they got with the device.

  15. Patpatzy says:

Thank you very much!!! It totally work great!!! :)

  16. 21leftcenter says:

thanks for this video. i followed your steps and replaced my tour trackball with an 8830 trackball. supposedly it sits a little higher than the tour tb. works great.

  17. markzaragosa says:

where did you get your prying tool man? (not the pick)

  18. jimbobbyl says:

I followed these instructions and replaced trackball and it worked. However, afterwards for some reason I had no data connection (so I was paranoid that after voiding my warranty I just fried my data connection). However, for some reason the Verizon Mobile Internet Setting got turned off (maybe from removing the battery and media cards … I’m not sure). But you can re-enable it in Manage Connections -> Blackberry Internet Service Connection -> Mobile Network Options -> Data Services -> On

  19. jagjagin says:

    lol at the armband

  20. flipknoc says:

i stopped watching after he said it’ll void your warranty. no thanks.

  21. GoGazelle says:

They are located under the housing on newer models, this requires a full disassemble of the housing. A real pain

  22. GoGazelle says:

Very true, we had to replace it again due to another faulty trackball. These things are very problematic.

  23. auxmike says:

Any idea why they made this trackball so tough to remove vs. older models?

  24. auxmike says:

Looks like the vertical travel is still bad after the fix.

  25. MrBoredatwork says:

    Nice early 80′s sweatband.
