You want to make sure that you have the essentials. You want to make sure there is text for the phone and email. If the phone number is in a graphic you have the write it down and then dial it. If the number is in text the smart phones will actually allow you to click on it and place the call.
This is important because 58% of online consumers currently own a mobile phone capable of connecting to the Web. (Source: PriceGrabber.com April 2009). Of the online consumers with Web-enabled phones, 21% own a Smartphone, 8% own an iPhone(TM), and 29% own another type of Web-enabled phone. 42% of Price Grabber survey respondents said they own a non-Web-enabled phone capable of using voice and text service plans only. Despite the economic climate, 8% of online consumers purchased their first Web-enabled phone in Q1 2009.
We are in a tough economic state at the moment but the number of Smartphones just keep on increasing. So we need to get with the times.
Steps for making your website iPhone and Blackberry friendly
Make sure your website isn’t too graphics heavy. Some funeral homes have these big “Splash Pages” that are just graphics and / or Flash. You have to click’enter here‘ or ‘skip’. That is not really user friendly. People are busy and they get tired of it. Make sure that the phone numbers & email address are in text so they can be easily clicked on when someone is using their Smartphone and they can access the number or email. Consider a mobile version of your website. Make sure your site has a feed that sees that it is a mobile browser and feeds them a different layout of the site that is more mobile friendly.A TEST you can do: Go to Google & enter: cache:YourFuneralChapel.com or cache: Your URL. This is the text that the search engines see and what the browsers sees. The mobile versions of this will place the phone number right at the top of the webpage that you can click on and phone directly. If it is blank when you do this test and click on the text version only then you know that people may have a hard time contacting you through their mobile device.
