When buying an iPhone or Blackberry, are there additional monthly charges to a phone plan?

Looking to add them onto a Family Plan, and I am wondering if there are additional charges that I would have to pay if I were to get an iPhone or Blackberry and be able to web browse, get email, GPS, etc. Or can I just connect to an outside source? Please be specific. Thanks!

Yes, you will pay a monthly “data” plan fee. Mine is an addition $49 for my blackberry, not sure what the iphone is or if it is the same!
Yes there is. The iPhone requires the iPhone data plan for $30 per month and BlackBerry devices require BlackBerry data plans that start at $30. The costs on both go up if you also want to add messaging to either one as the basic $30 plan on both is data access only, no messaging. You can however add the Family Messaging plan for $30 and that will give you access to unlimited text messages, picture messages, and instant messages on up to 5 lines.
iPhone is $30 a month for “unlimited” (about 5 gigs in the user agreement)
