Do I need a contract?

I really want a blackberry and i plan on getting one from boost mobile. I need to know if the service works as well as the other guys'. Does it function like other blackberry curves? Are there any features missing because of the company? Basically i need to know if their is any difference between the blackberry curve for boost mobile and the other companys' blackberry and if it sucks and it's not worth the money i'm going to pay.

I am looking into getting a blackberry Curve 8350i. I do not need the data plan right away so I was going to wait a few months before getting it. Can I connect to my wireless home internet and get online with the blackberry without being charged by Nextel?

I wanted a blackberry strictly for internet, and maybe texting, but i do not need voice. If I'm getting this phone on Verizon, is it possible to do this with just data? Also, I was planning on buying it on craigslist or eBay, because i don't want to start a new contract.

Also, which is realistically more practical, a Blackberry Smartphone or a Nokia Smartphone? Some of the advantages of the latter appear to be some providers offer unlimited push email for a quarter of the price of the former and cheaper 3G units. What is Blackberry's advantage?
For personal use?
